Last day and goodbyes

Dave, I think you forgot your dice!

A goodbye letter from a honorary Geek.

My ride home in the car with my daughters frogs.

Until next year so long Geekfest 2015.

I was thinking  why D&D every year? We've tried other RPG's in past years but always return to D&D. I think it's the background and the "world" our DM has created and expanded over the years. I wish I could fit in more D&D sessions in through out the year...

5th edition D&D

Timbit holder.

This year the characters made their way to 2nd level. The 5th edition rules are good, traditional with lots good up-dates. The advantage and dis-advantage is neat.

After 3 days of D&D I'm still not sure what module we were playing. Our DM has books, dragon and dungeon magazines and rule books dating back to the 80's.  Any time we play we are guaranteed to have never played or really seen the story or encounters before.

Power urge is a good action to use in tight situations!

While on the Wizards of the Coast website I found this.

Another game we played on the final day. Talisman is a good fun game with D&D elements and all the fantasy goodness without the role-playing. It's seems like there is a bunch of these "dungeoning" style games coming out on places like Kickstarter

Rise of the Runesmiths

In Rise of the Runesmiths players control one more more characters (“Runesmiths”) in a team based battle against other players. The goal of the game is to score the most points – the game ends when either team reaches 30 points. Points are earned by controlling the Runes on the game board or by killing other Runesmiths. Controlling a Rune is worth 2 points per turn, and killing an enemy Runesmith is worth 3 points. A slain Runesmith is also removed from the battle – The controlling player must miss a turn and select a new Runesmith to reenter the game.

The downloaded rules of the game. 4 pages, well written easy to read.

The character cut outs and add ons.

The player cards.

The gaming board. A series of tiles you put together to create the
playing area.

The player cards.

Rune cards, counters and spawning zones.

The game in progress. My player card with wound markers and counters.

Overall the game is fast paced and easy to play. Just needs a back story to flesh out the game. I wish these guy's all the best in developing this game.

Wood Newton

So this years Geekfest takes place at the fabulous Wood Newton in Clarmount.

The dog.

Here is a shot of the main building to hold the many Geeks of Geekfest.
There was trail riding on the ATV's plus a crazy lawn game called
Kubb. This is an easy yet strategic game to play outside. If there are no 5 year olds running off
the playing pieces.

When playing this game you really had to hold back from any action surges.
Very dangerous.
